CRC supports youth engagement by offering programs where young people can participate, learn, and contribute to their community. Through leadership experiences and service-oriented activities, students have opportunities to work with peers, meet mentors, and take part in projects that connect them to their community in positive and meaningful ways.
Young Peace Builders is a multi-day leadership and peacebuilding program that brings together high school students from different backgrounds to learn, collaborate, and reflect on issues affecting their communities. The program includes discussions on conflict resolution, workshops on community leadership, conversations with guest speakers, and a team-based service project.
During the retreat, students take part in interactive sessions, problem-solving activities, and hands-on experiences that encourage teamwork and thoughtful engagement. The emphasis is on helping participants consider how they can contribute to their communities in practical and responsible ways.
After the retreat, Young Peace Builders offers optional follow-up gatherings and collaborative opportunities where participants can stay connected, exchange ideas, and continue developing projects that grow out of their experience.
The program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors, as well as recent graduates from the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.
Enes Kanter Freedom is a Turkish-American former NBA player who spent more than a decade in the league, playing for teams such as the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Boston Celtics. Beyond his professional career, he is known for his community outreach and leads youth clinics around the world on a voluntary basis.
In partnership with the River Crossing YMCA, CRC hosts a basketball clinic in which Enes Kanter Freedom works directly with young participants. During the clinic, Enes teaches basketball fundamentals, leads group drills, and shares practical insight drawn from his years as a professional athlete.
Beyond basketball skills, the clinic places emphasis on character and personal growth. Enes speaks with students about discipline, teamwork, respect, and the importance of staying active and healthy. Following the program, participants often have time to take photos and receive autographs. These informal moments allow students to connect one-on-one, ask brief questions, and leave the clinic with a personal memory of the experience.
For many participants, the experience is as much about learning life skills and building confidence as it is about the game itself.
The clinic received the 2022 Greater Lehigh Valley Y Champion Award for its positive contribution to the community. We are grateful to Rivercrossing YMCA for their partnership in this program.
